With this decision, the company strengthens its digital sovereignty, promotes European value creation, and pursues clear goals in automation and release stability.
Long-term partner Xantaro introduced Nokia early in the process and professionally guided 23M from structured evaluation to procurement. The implementation is now in its final phase. The close integration of Nokia 7220 Interconnect Router (IXR) data center switches running the Nokia SR Linux operating system with the open source project containerlab allows 23M to realistically replicate its production infrastructure in a lab environment. This enables changes, automation, and upgrades to be comprehensively tested and validated beforehand. Strong community feedback and reliably stable software releases have built additional trust - a clear improvement over previous vendors.
Nokia also impresses with a high pace of innovation in hardware and software, as well as an active SR Linux Discord channel that allows for direct exchange with developers. This open, engaged ecosystem stands for transparency and practical relevance. Combined with an economically attractive overall package, this results in a compelling total cost of ownership and a future-proof technical foundation for 23M.
Tobias Rehn, CEO of 23M GmbH:
“With Nokia SR Linux, we gain the freedom to mirror our networks realistically using containerlab and then roll out changes automatically and with low risk. This strengthens our digital sovereignty. At the same time, by choosing Nokia, we are deliberately relying on a strong, innovative partner from Europe, which fits perfectly with our strategy of a European supply chain.”
Jürgen Städing, Chief Operation Officer Xantaro Group, is delighted about the joint project. “We are proud to be the trusted partner of our customer, 23M, together with Nokia. Their approach to automation, which is based on a very open and agnostic concept, is fully in line with our strategy of preparing customers for the future of automation in data centers and network structures. SR Linux and Event-Driven Automation (EDA) enable our customers to reduce operating costs and increase operational stability. This is one of our core areas of expertise.”
Michael Siegel, Head of Sales Germany, Nokia, commented, “Nokia SR Linux, our modular, microservices-based network operating system designed for operational reliability and automation, brings greater scalability, flexibility, and resilience across modern network infrastructures. Together with our long-standing and trusted partner, Xantaro, we are proud to offer a sovereign data center solution to 23M.”
