Due to the ever faster speed of internet access for private customers, the increasing demand for high-speed connections for business customers and the huge increase in data volumes for today’s applications (e.g. VoIP, music, video, IPTV, business applications) the required transmission capacities in the backbone are also rising rapidly.


The utilization of current systems

The use of existing capacities in SDH networks or of additional fiber optics is often not an option anymore as capacities are already fully used, no further fiber optics are available or because leasing or laying new cables would be too expensive or take too long
