Core Technologies – IP / MPLS / GMPLS

MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) took only a few years to develop from a fairly exotic technology into a tool which now plays a crucial role within the networks of many internet service providers. The Xantaro team includes some experts who have witnessed this first-hand and who have been actively involved in the development and standardization process.

From value-added services such as VPNs (Virtual Private Networks) for business customers via securing quality-of-service through to traffic engineering, Xantaro employees are able to plan, build, operate and troubleshoot networks. Xantaro supports clients in terms of consolidating the network, introducing new services and virtualizing the network. We will carry out network checks in order to analyze weaknesses and network traffic and to make recommendations for the further development of the network.

The practical experience of Xantaro covers design and optimization of IP routing, internet peering, the development and introduction of QoS mechanisms, the introduction of IP multicast as well as the design and implementation of Ipv6 services. Xantaro will also support you when it comes to increasing your network availability.

Furthermore, our employees have developed customer-specific products for service providers, from simple MPLS access to complex VPN topologies and IPSec access.

Broadband Access

The rapid adoption of DSL-based broadband internet access places a major burden on the network elements used. This is where the Broadband Remote Access Server (BRAS) plays an important role. It authenticates DSL customers, aggregates data traffic, carries out IP routing and generates data services. In view of the ever increasing number of users, scalability and availability of these components are turning into major challenges.

The next phase of the broadband evolution with modern access technologies such as ADSL2, VDSL, WiMax or FTTx (FTTH, FTTB, FTTC) drives the development of broadband networks towards internet access with ever higher bandwidths. The continuing growth in bandwidth and the intense pressure on prices for broadband services is changing the access network. One example for this is the increased use of Ethernet-based access networks as opposed to traditional ATM-based access networks.

Rather then simply working with pure “best effort” internet services, service providers are increasingly looking at data services offering added value such as VPN services or multimedia services (double-play, triple-play). This involves very high expectations of the quality of services.

Our employees have many years of experience with the design and introduction of broadband services in production networks. This includes the design and introduction of complex QoS mechanisms, the development of IP multicast services, the introduction of monitoring according to the requirements of the “Bundesnetzagentur” (German federal agency for utilities) as well as the introduction of DSL wholesale. Xantaro employees know about current access technologies, are familiar with the latest technologies and systems of our partners and are able to contribute this know-how to successful projects.
